Well... I got my van back from the shop... any of you who read
starsongky 's journal already know how much it cost.
I drove it thatday...stopped to get gas, went to pick up a harness for Ben to wear on the bus to Earlystart. The engine is a touch smaller than the original so the acceleration is a touch slower than I am used to but that seemed to be the only difference (besides the improvements)
I had a little toruble starting it back up after getting gas...took it outa park and put it back in and it started up...so I figured I hadn't had it all the way in park.
Come this morning...I had a couple of urgent errands to run for work, I wait till Tracy gets in and then I jfigure I'll jump in the van and be back in about 15-20 minutes....nope Van no start. Dead silence when turning key. No click, no crank...nuttin. I check the lights...they work...not a dead battery. Check the park position (I could done it again I figured) Nothing.
I've got to run those errands...so I go back in and tell Tracy that I'm gonna borrow my mothers van to run the errands and why I need to do so...I go run my errands and come back...I call my mechanic.
I tell him what happened and his response was "After all that money? and it doesn't start?"
He sends a tow truck (He has a deal with one of the towing companies...they do his towing and he bills the customer)
He calls me back around 1. "It's fixed" Turns out that an inline fuse had blown in the ignition. Since that was one of the few areas I didn't have him fix this time around I asked him how much it would cost...he said not a thing.
THIS is why I go to that mechanic...he won't try to screw you over...(he doesn't like to leave critical things unfixed...but he'll work with you on payment) and he does good work.
The first time I took it to him he had to try to fix blown heads...and they were unmillable AND we couldn't afford to pay much...so basically he had to put it back together with new seals and such and thats about it...with a warning tat he couldn't tell me how long that might last...it lasted five years...until we got full pressure back on the system by fixing the heater core and radiator. FIVE YEARS with bad heads fixed only with new seals.
