I've been planning all day to say something about this last election.

I don't have the simple eloquence of [livejournal.com profile] rosepurr or the straightforward statements of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] or all the facts of [livejournal.com profile] solarbird.

I wish I did.

I wish I had some way to express my feelings... writing isn't really my gig. Give me a program to debug any day of the week.

Maybe that's my problem...maybe I figured that if I plugged in the right answer I would get the desired result.

I didn't.

I'm a straight monogamous married male...born in the middle of the bible belt...raised southern babtist.... and I can not fathom the depth of stupidity that my country and my state have displayed in the last day.

How the fuck does it protect my marriage to tell two people who love each other so much that they want to be joined emotionally, legally, financially, and every OTHER way that two people CAN be joined that they can't.

I wrote to Mitch McConnell our senator...got back what was obviously a form letter (Which says to me that he got a LOT of letters like mine) It basically stated that I had no idea what I was talking about....so if a federal amendment is proposed...guess which way he's voting?

I was hoping that our state would send a clear message about how hateful such a thing was by voting no to Kentucky's version of an amendment.

The damn thing doesn't even recognize civil unions as valid...and here is a kicker...KY used to recognize other state's Common Law marriages,...the wording of the amendment probably eliminates that as well.

What are they afraid of? WHY does the thought of a same sex couple freak them out so much? I can't understand such thinking.

And Bush...gods...the man has stated point blank that there is a segment of the american population that he wants to keep a basic right from...the right to the pursuit of happiness.

I am ashamed of my state and me...I was too pollyanna about it...."Oh that won't pass a vote, nobody could fall for that crap."

Wrong bucko....75% of my state...and I can't even claim it was the fault of a vocal minority....the voter turn out was too high for that to be the case.

*hugs* It boils down to the simple fact that it says right there in the Bible that people of the same gender just aren't supposed to lie with one another like people of different genders do. And if you try to tell someone who believes that that they're wrong, what it translates to is "you're attacking my religion".

Yeah. Too bad it says that right in the same section where it says not to wear clothes of mixed fibers, or to eat shellfish. I don't see anyone proposing a freaking SHELLFISH AMENDMENT!!!

Yah. :) I love how much people selectively read Leviticus. :)

Besides...a gay man doesn't lie with a man like he lies with a woman.

(Ok...it turns it into a statement against Bi...but it flummoxes those who say you can't interpret it any other way but against gays)

Humans.
